LIGHT GRAFFITI
In early 2011, thanks to funding from the Arts Council of England, I was able to start experimenting with Light Graffiti. This is a photographic technique in which "light paintings" are created by moving light sources in front of a camera while the shutter is held open for an extended period (e.g. 25 seconds). I first learned about this technique from Ian Hobson at a 1Voice event.
Following my experimental stage, I went on to work with a group of young people at Knotty Ash Youth and Community Centre, producing a multimedia performance on 16th July 2011 which included Light Graffiti, music creation using Soundbeam and Skoogs, Dance and live projection.
Subsequently, I was commissioned by Knowsley Borough Council to work with a group of adults to produce a series of Light Paintings for wall display in their new Resource Centre.
Light Graffiti fits in well with my Dance Workshops, as it is possible to choreograph the moves of the light sources in front of the camera. The technique is equally suitable for people with and without disabilities * and can be adapted very successfully to people who use a wheelchair. I am able to offer Light Graffiti workshops either as standalone sessions or combined with Dance/Music Workshops. For further details, please go to my Enquiry Form.
Below are some of the Light Paintings that have been created by the groups I have worked with. You can see more examples at my Flick'r Photostream.
